Pink Benton Selected by Lompoc Odd Fellows to Be Only Delegate from California to IOOF Pilgrimage
Presentation given to members and guests following the pilgrimage
Pink Benton (at podium), a new member of the Lompoc Odd Fellows Lodge, was chosen by our Lodge earlier this year to attend the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Pilgrimage for Youth for 2024 as the only delegate from California.
The Pilgrimage dates back to 1949 after the formation of the United Nations when a partnership was struck to allow older teens sponsored by Odd Fellows Lodges to get a behind the scenes experience at the UN.
In addition to a tour of the United Nations, delegates are given an opportunity to win a scholarship through a speech contest as well as see many sites in and around the New York area such as the Statue of Liberty, Broadway, Top of the Rock, and more. The tour also included several major cities in the surrounding states such as Boston, Philadelphia, and Washington, DC. Highlights included the Smithsonian Institute, Gettysburg Battlefield, Hershey’s Chocolate World, Liberty Bell and Independence Hall, Niagara Falls, and also Salem and Boston, Massachusetts.
If you are interested in being sponsored for this tour, which is at no cost to the high school student. The basic qualification are that they be sponsored by an Odd Fellows Lodge and they be entering their senior year of high school. Contact our Lodge at LompocOddFellows@gmail.com to apply for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
